Vermont utility regulators are giving the go-ahead for what would be Vermont’s largest industrial wind project.
The Kingdom Community Wind farm would consist of 21 400-foot-tall towers along three miles of ridge line in the town of Lowell. It’s being developed jointly by Green Mountain Power and Vermont Electric Co-op and would generate enough electricity to power 20-thousand households.
Town voters approved the plan last year and now the state Public Service Board has issued a certificate of public good. The project still needs a permit from the Army Corps of Engineers to fill in some wetlands. And Vermont Electric Co-op voters must still authorize 11 million dollars in transmission line upgrades.
