Tourist site may be factor in Colebrook wind turbine proposal

COLEBROOK – The Connecticut Siting Council last week accepted into its findings one major difference that separates the second site proposed for wind turbines in town from the first.

History and tourism dollars.

The Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism submitted letters to the council saying turbines at the second site on Rock Hall Road would threaten the nearby Rock Hall Luxe Lodging, a bed and breakfast which last July was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

The agency’s concern for the turbine’s proximity to both a historical site and a working inn backs owner Stella Somers, one of the most vocal opponents of the project. If the turbines were built in the proposed location, about a half-mile from her business, they would be “irreversibly damaging,” Somers said.
