A fourth wind farm proposed for Glen Innes

A small town in the state’s north could be home to four wind farms, if the latest plans worth $350 million get the green light.
The renewable energy company, Epuron, wants to build 119 turbines and a substation on agricultural land west of Glen Innes.
The proponent says the area has been chosen because it has some of the fastest wind speeds in New South Wales and it will have a ‘minimal’ impact on neighbouring farms.
The company’s Construction Manager, Andrew Wilson, says farms will not be adversely impacted.
“Wind farming is very compatible with the existing land use,” he said.
“A wind farm typically takes up between one and two per cent of the land area and the normal agricultural activities whether it’s stock or crops can continue on around the wind farm.
“If anything some of the infrastructure like the roads and access tracks actually improves the access across the land.”
Robert Keough farms nearby and says he does not support the wind farm.
‘No, the first thing I heard about this was from my neighbour, who is hosting the towers, rang me up and said I’m going to get the money and you’re going to have to look at the towers,” he said.
“My wife is beside herself.
“She hasn’t slept for a couple of nights, it’s putting a strain on our marriage.”
