Residents of Evansford, north of Ballarat, are celebrating a decision to scrap a planned expansion of the Waubra Wind Farm.
Acciona Energy yesterday abandoned a plan to build more wind turbines at a site south-east of the town.
The company says the decision was based on a lack of wind to power the turbines.
An Evansford resident, Donald Thomas, says locals are opposed to the wind farm and did not want to see it grow.
“It wasn’t a good idea in the first place,” he said.
“We certainly did [not] want more of Acciona in the district. I think it is a huge win for the local community.”
