Wind farm gets OK from hearing examiner

www.dnews.com 23 May 2011

Whitman County may soon be the home of up to 65 wind turbines after Hearing Examiner Andrew Kottkamp granted Palouse Wind and its parent company First Wind a conditional use permit to build a wind farm in the northeastern part of the county.

Shortly before the deadline at 5 p.m. today, Kottkamp submitted his decision to the county, denying two appeals filed against the wind farm and granting the conditional permit.

Though the county has had little time to “digest” the 160 stipulations in Kottkamp’s decision, Planning Director Alan Thomson said Kottkamp, for the most part, affirmed all of the stipulations outlined in Whitman County code.
