Six big rigs detained on highway for over seven hours

NATOMAS, CA – Six big rigs carrying oversized wind tower blades had been parked along the side of Highway 5 and 99 from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Friday. California Highway Patrol kept them from moving, due to permit confusion.

“We were told we might be out here until Monday morning,” said Truck Driver Christopher Wilson. “We’re stuck on the side of the road with no facilities, just sitting here looking for someone to break into our stuff.” He added, “I just don’t think it’s very safe.”

The trucks started their trip from Little Rock, Ark. and had been on the road for a week.

The truckers asked California Highway Patrol to close lanes and help escort them off the highway to Woodland, which they had reportedly done many times before.

While CHP was checking the truckers documents, they noticed the loads did not match the truck permits.

So, instead of escorting the trucks to Woodland, CHP detained the trucks and requested they obtain permits from Caltrans, the City of Woodland and Yolo County before they could continue.
