Inspector to review turbine evidence

By Richard Wright, Isle of Wight County Press, www.iwcp.co.uk 21 May 2011

It will be at least six weeks until both sides know who has won the battle of Cheverton Down.
Shorwell Scout Hut was the venue last Friday for pro and anti wind farm campaigners’ closing submissions to planning inspector John Woolcock.
He will review the mountain of evidence given over several weeks of the hearing before deciding whether Cornwall Light and Power can construct three 110-metre turbines.
Opponents say the effect on the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and wider landscape is a price too great to pay.
Supporters claim the benefits of green energy outweigh any adverse effects.
The energy company has existing permission for three turbines half the size of those turned down by the Isle of Wight Council but says the larger turbines will be much more efficient.
Mr Woolcock said it would take at least six weeks to issue his decision.
