Travel to Cardiff and join the Power Mad protest

More than 1,000 people are expected to descend on Cardiff Bay next week to protest against plans to blight the Montgomeryshire landscape with 47 metre high steel pylons and a 20-acre electricity substation.

More than 20 buses will take protesters in Montgomeryshire to the Welsh capital on Tuesday, while others are arriving by car, train and foot.

And there is still time for you to join the protest – simply book your seat on a bus to Cardiff by calling Carol Davies on 01691 831 008.

Emphasising the importance of the protest, a spokesperson for the Montgomeryshire Against Pylons group said: “Let us leave the Welsh Assembly with little doubt as to exactly how strongly we, the people of Montgomeryshire and its surrounding areas, feel regarding the impact of the proposed windfarms, hubs and pylons that they are so blithely forcing on Mid Wales.

“Proposed plans would see the heartland of the county disappear under concrete and massive wind turbines, as high as the London Eye, together with supporting 400,000 volt cables.”

MP Glyn Davies, who will be speaking at the protest rally, added: “It will be the biggest protest ever to be staged outside the Welsh Assembly Government building.

“It is very important to me that we show the strength of feeling there is in Montgomeryshire and that we do our utmost to persuade the Welsh Assembly not to go ahead with their proposals.

“The consequence of the proposals would be to totally destroy the place we love by industrialising the uplands with wind turbines and desecrating our valleys with hideous cables and pylons.

“If they choose to ignore us then we need to make sure they know how we, the people of Montgomeryshire, feel so they cannot deny any responsibility for what they do.”
