Rugby office to take wind farm concerns

A company proposing a wind farm at Rugby, north of Canberra, has set up an office in the New South Wales town in a bid to stem negative public opinion about the project.

Three separate wind farm developments with a total of 350 turbines are in the pipeline for the Boorowa area.

Rugby Wind Farm community relations manager Daniel McDonald has no concerns the new office will become a target for protests.

“In fact I really hope the people opposing the wind farm do come in and talk to me and let me know exactly what their concerns are,” he said.

“I really would like to listen to them and make sure they have the right information so that they know exactly what’s going on.”

An opponent of the wind farm, Charlie Arnott, says his property backs on to the site of 12 proposed turbines.

“If they say they’re consulting as much as they can, they’ve got a lot to learn,” he said.

“There are landholders still out there who are discovering that they are going to be impacted by turbines, that they’re going to be over their back fence within a couple of kilometres of their house.”
