Turbine truck hits power pole in Galva

A wind turbine struck a power pole in downtown Galva Monday afternoon when the semi hauling it was backing up to get out of the way of a 124-wheel semi carrying parts of a house at Main and Exchange streets.

State police were with the larger truck.

The power pole was heavily damaged and will have to be replaced. The pole is in front of the new Main Street Eatery, which opened Friday.

City workers was called to barricade one lane and to locate water and sewer lines in the area. Ameren was called to make repairs to the power line.

The turbine left ruts at the intersection of Routes 17 and 34, and its wheel went up into the Don and Missy Quanstrom yard, destroying plants and leaving large ruts.
