Wind turbines draw massive objections

More than 750 objections have been submitted against two controversial wind farm plans.

EDF’s proposals for five turbines near Puriton received 338 formal objections and just 38 letters of support.

Meanwhile, Ecotricity’s four turbines near West Huntspill have 427 objections, two petitions and 113 letters for.

Sedgemoor District Council planning officer Colin Arnold said: “These separate plans have stirred up lots of interest with opposition bigger than support.

“I have been a planning officer for 18 years and only seen a few other applications that have attracted so much interest.”

Huntspill Wind Farm Action Group chairman John Wakefield said: “The numbers show that people do not want them and we’re confident the right decision will be made.”

Ecotricity’s plans are being discussed by district planners.

A decision on EDF’s plan could come as early as May 21.
