Votes on wind projects preceded by a recusal

PROSPECT – The Connecticut Siting Council’s vice chairman is recusing himself from voting on a proposed wind project in Colebrook, but he is expected to play a role in today’s vote on a wind proposal in Prospect.

Colin C. Tait notified the council in a letter Wednesday that he will recuse himself from the two pending petitions in Colebrook by BNE Energy Inc. of West Hartford to erect six 1.6-megawatt turbines there.

The council is expected to take a final vote today on BNE’s proposal to install two 1.6-megawatt wind turbines on a 67.5-acre parcel at 178 New Haven Road in Prospect. The deadline for a decision is Monday.

In a surprise straw poll last Monday, six of seven members present indicated that they will vote against the project. They cited concern with size of the turbines and proximity to homes. Tait was one of the members whose comments indicated a denial of the project.
