Residents are paying for wind farm battle

North Devon Journal, www.thisisnorthdevon.co.uk 12 May 2011

Campaigners are paying to stop the winds of change affecting their lives.

More than 60 residents agreed at a meeting in Meddon village hall to contribute toward the battle against electricity generating wind farms, proposed near the village.

Experts on planning law, wildlife protection, public health issues and damage to the environment, have been hired.

Stop Turbine Onshore Proliferation In Torridge, STOPIT, says turbines at Harbour Cross and East Youlstone would ruin their lives and those of future generations.

STOPIT chairman David Westcott said: “We owe it to this generation, and to those who will follow, to fight tooth and nail against the destruction of this beautiful part of North Devon.”

Six turbines are planned for Harbour Cross and a wind speed mast has gone up as part of a preliminary survey by developers Wind Ventures.

Airvolution Energy has submitted plans with Torridge District Council for two turbines at East Youlstone.
