Industrial wind turbines don’t make “sense,” but they make lots of “dollars and cents” for developers and the big investment banks that back them.
The landowners who are paid to put them on their land may think that they are getting a big piece of the pie, but in truth they are getting a pittance compared to the profits made by the developers and the big investment banks that back them.
The way the profit is counted is one or less for the landowner, with nine or more for the developer and investment banks. Only a few get the big money.
Along with the pittance, the landowner gets potential legal problems, liability risks, loss of crop production, loss of good neighbor status, loss of control over their own land and the right to talk about it.
Industrial wind turbines don’t make sense because they are a losing proposition without huge tax subsidies at a time when our government is out of money.
In Illinois the wind is considered low quality for wind generation, so why build them here?
Because wind energy is unpredictable, uncontrollable, and unreliable, it takes a second power plant to back up wind energy, so two power sources are necessary instead of one. It doesn’t make sense.
Let’s keep and protect our agricultural Ogle County land and not change it into fields of industry for little benefit to the majority.
Let’s preserve and protect it for our heirs.
