CPRE: turbine could thwart any plans to improve A30

The Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) has hit out at plans for a 48m wind turbine at Blackwater, claiming it would threaten any future improvements to the A30 and Chiverton Cross Roundabout.

The organisation has written to Cornwall Council’s planning department objecting to the proposal by Maurice Crouch Growers, which says it wants to use the turbine to offset its energy bills at its daffodil- growing business at Roscarnick Farm in Threeburrows.

The CPRE said the turbine, near the A30 and A3075, would add to the cumulative effect of turbines in the area, including the Four Burrows wind farm, and hamper any prospect of dualling the A30 or introducing an underpass or overpass.

The owner of Lands Vue Farm in Penstraze and their neighbour, Iain Rowlandson, whose homes would be overlooked by the turbine, say they also fear its impact.

“The turbine is 300m from my property and would loom large over my house and would be clearly visible and audible,” said Mr Rowlandson.

“It is suggested that the minimum distance for turbines from domestic housing should be at least 350m according to the House of Commons library document (March 25, 2011).”

Cornwall councillor John Dyer, who campaigned against the Four Burrows wind farm, said he was likewise concerned by the latest turbine plan.
