Wind turbine questions still need answers

By John and Mary Sinibaldi, Monroe Center, www.saukvalley.com 9 May 2011

We vote no for wind turbines. Here are a few questions we have for the legislators who will make this decision for Ogle County voters.

Will bond be posted if the wind turbines fail?

Where are wind turbine and component parts built? (U.S. manufacturing jobs?)

How many Ogle County workers will be employed to build the wind turbines – percentage please?

Who owns the wind turbines? What county?

Will the owners be taxed at the same rate the voters of Ogle County would be taxed (2 percent of the value of the land and structures)?

If the wind turbine owners lease the land for the turbines from local voters, will the landowners pay 2 percent of the value in taxes?

Are the workers union members? If yes, what Ogle County union do they belong to?

Will at least one tower be 660 feet from your property, senator?

This decision affects Ogle county voters’ livelihoods, property values, taxes and health. A decision this important should not be made by a handful of legislators when it affects thousands of local voters.

Why is it that Ogle County never prospers from those kinds of decisions? Only the owners, unions and workers from outside Ogle County, lobbyists, and others we don’t hear about, are the ones to gain financially and get the tax advantage ($40 an acre). Why is it Ogle County residents will not benefit in any way?

We look forward to hearing the results. Keep in mind last year’s election results. Not enough legislators listened to the vast majority of the people.
