Hundreds of turbines at Upper Hunter windfarm

ABC News, www.abc.net.au 6 May 2011

The company proposing a windfarm for the Liverpool Range in the Upper Hunter says the project could involve more than 500 turbines.

A preliminary environmental assessment has been lodged by Epuron with New South Wales Planning for the Liverpool Range Wind Farm.

It would be located between Cassilis and Coolah, covering an area 40kms east to west, by 50kms north to south.

The proposal is for up to 550 wind turbines, which could produce 4-million megawatts of electricity, enough to power 500,000 houses.

Epuron says the site is mainly agricultural land which could continue to be used for farming and grazing operations.

But the Director-General of Planning has asked the company to also consider potential land use conflicts, including local gas and mining exploration leases, and whether a powerline should pass through a State Recreation Area to connect with the Wollar-Wellington transmission line.
