Wind turbine complaints dogging Liberals ahead of fall election campaign

TORONTO – With an election just a few months away, concerns over Ontario’s green energy projects are proving to be a thorn in the governing Liberals’ side.

The province has received about 750 complaints about wind turbines over the past two years, and found that some companies aren’t complying with the rules.

Environment Minister John Wilkinson says he takes all of those complaints seriously, but the majority are coming from about 20 people.

Rather than issuing fines or orders that would force companies to abide by the rules, Wilkinson says the government takes the complaints directly to the turbine operators.

He says in most cases, the companies take action to make sure they’re complying with the rules.

But Conservative critic John Yakabuski says Wilkinson is doing little to deal with concerns that have been raised repeatedly by people across the province about wind turbines.
