Tirunelveli: Villagers of Seelathikulam in Radhapuram taluk staged a protest against charges levelled against 12 persons. They alleged that equipment necessary for setting up a private wind energy project at the village had caused damage to power lines on streets. Private windmills have been set up here for the past 10 years here.
Previously, all equipment have been transported to the workspot on the outskirts of the village but during the current year, such equipment have been carried on narrow streets of the village, which would sever power supply lines.
On April 28, a power supply line was damaged while transporting the equipment for the project.
The vehicle which carried the equipment was intercepted subsequently.
The villagers sought the intervention of the police.
But cases have been filed against 12 people of the village on the contrary.
As many as 750 households are living here and most of them are dependent on agriculture and other menial jobs.
