Inquiry planned after wind farm plan rejected

GOOLE: A public inquiry is to be held in the town this month over controversial plans to build five wind turbines on Spaldington Airfield.

The hearing, which will be held on Tuesday, May 24, at the council chambers in Church Street, follows East Riding Council’s rejection of an application by Falck Renewables.

Members of the Spaldington Turbine Opposition Project have been battling against both the Falck plans and those by German company Volkswind to erect up to seven turbines on Spaldington Common.

Protesters fear it could open the floodgates for other developers. But Coriolis Energy, agent for the Falck proposal, said the development would generate renewable electricity to meet the annual requirements of about 5,900 to 7,300 homes and sustain 30 jobs during its construction.
