Imagine 400-foot tower on waterfront

www.burlingtonfreepress.com 4 May 2011

I saw in the April 22 Burlington Free Press a lengthy feature on the chronic problem of affordable housing in Chittenden County (“A hard place gets harder”).

Imagine if a real estate developer proposed building 20 to 25, 400-foot high condo/apartment towers on the Burlington water front. This idea would be shot down in a nano-second.

But somehow putting up 20 to 25 400-foot high wind turbines in Lowell has somehow gained traction.

It is just baffling to me that the state that banned billboards in the 1970s now seems destined to emulate an idea better suited to West Virginia. And all for a miniscule amount of electrical power.

I hope that our governor, Legislature, and utility regulators will see the folly of the disastrous wind turbine scheme and end it once and for all.
