Wind turbine damaged near Max

KXMCTV Minot, www.kxnet.com 2 May 2011

One blade of a wind turbine north of Max bent in half in high winds late yesterday afternoon.

Basin Electric reports the blade failed as the turbine along Highway 83 was spinning in the blizzard winds. This is the second catastrophic failure of a wind turbine in North Dakota in the last two months…on March 14th of this year, the entire hub and three blades of a turbine near Rugby went flying off a spinning turbine operated by Iberdrola. However, Daryl Hill says this is the first time Basin Electric has had a wind turbine suffer a structural failure and he says the company will investigate the situation fully.
