On a recent U.S. Farm Report, the commentator, John Phipps, replied to a letter about wind power. In a thoughtful, concise answer, he gave several reasons why wind power just doesn’t make sense.
A couple of his points were:
* It doesn’t make sense economically, since consumers will pay more even with huge government subsidies (our hard-earned tax dollars).
* Wind power is intermittent, causing backup power plants to be on hot standby, which actually causes more carbon emissions.
People who love Maine should educate themselves about the ill-effects of land-based wind power. The damage to wildlife, watersheds, views, property values, tourism and recreational businesses will be great.
