Vote no on Article 5 at Brewster town meeting

Cape Cod Times, www.capecodonline.com 28 April 2011Cape Cod Times, www.capecodonline.com 28 April 2011

A supermajority of five votes was needed to permit the Cape & Vineyard Electric Cooperative to construct two wind turbines in Brewster. The planning board essentially denied the permit by not reaching the required supermajority to pass the proposal. The selectmen now want to go by a different set of rules since the vote did not go their way.

The wording for green energy at town meetings was to investigate green energy. It was not a mandate for wind turbines, per se.

The assertion that the current turbine proposal is well-situated is not a fact – it is an opinion held mostly by those who are not personally affected. An Internet search for people whose lives are harmed by living close to industrial-size turbines reveals nationwide and worldwide problems. Turbines should not be closer than one mile to the nearest residence to minimize impact on nearby residents. More investigation needs to be done for definitive answers.

Vote no on Article 5 at Brewster town meeting on May 2 at 7 p.m. We cannot let our selectmen have dictatorial rights on wind turbine placement.
