Airport bosses say a proposed wind turbine in Burtonwood could affect the radar used to monitor the flight path of planes.
At a meeting held to decide whether the 77 metre-high structure should be built on Alder Lane in the village, councillors were told that experts at Liverpool’s John Lennon Airport were objecting to the plan.
A decision on whether the planning application could be given the go ahead was delayed to allow both sides to meet.
The development was revealed at Wednesday night’s meeting of Warrington Borough Council’s planning applications sub-committee at the Town Hall.
Planning officer Richard Evans said: “There is an outstanding objecting from Liverpool Airport on safety grounds.
“They are still discussing this and that has not finished yet.”
The turbine would be built next to the M62 at Causeway Bridges Farm.
And while Manchester Airport is not objecting, Liverpool is saying the turbine would be within the area where their air traffic radar tracks.
Also objecting is Burtonwood and Westbrook Parish Council which has said the turbine should not be built within the green belt and that the application would have a detrimental effect on the people living nearby.
Ten neighbours have also objecting on similar grounds, especially concerned about the noise.
One resident however wrote in support saying the turbine would add to the view in the area.
Planning officers at the borough council have recommended the scheme be approved and it is likely to be discussed at the next meeting on May 11.
