Protestors outraged at plans to build eight 125m high wind turbines at a site in Cridling Stubbs attended a meeting of wind farm action group leaders from across the region last week.

Members of the Cridling Stubbs Womersley Windfarm Action Group (CSWWAG) joined members of other action groups and Selby MP Nigel Adams at the meeting in Hillam.

CSWWAG was formed by Cridling Stubbs resident Robert Klaasen who is worried about Waste Recycling Group’s (WRG) plans to build the wind farm on the Darrington Quarry site on Stubbs Lane.

Mr Klaasen said: “The meeting was held to get together all the chairman of wind farm action groups in the area. There were about eight who attended, looking to establish how we can cooperate to exchange information and work together where possible in the future.

“The meeting was also attended by Selby MP Nigel Adams and Ann Crowther, chairwoman of the National Association of the Windfarm Action Groups.”

WRG submitted the wind farm plans to Wakefield and Selby Councils – as the wind turbines will stand close to the boundaries of both areas – but the process has been delayed while the plans are also considered by North Yorkshire County Council.

Mr Klaasen added: “It was originally submitted to Selby Council who lost the authority to make a decision on this project because the site has been used for landfill and anything to do with landfill has to be considered by the county council.”
