The company behind plans for a second wind farm in the Mudgee district says it’s committed to consulting locals about the project’s potential impact.

Two months after Wind Prospect announced 300-million dollar plans for the Crudine Wind Farm, it’s released details of the Uungula project north of Lake Burrendong, between Wellington, Gulgong and Mudgee.

The company wants to build 300 turbines at a cost of one-point-three billion dollars.

The wind farm would have a lifespan of between 20 and 25 years and would take 18 months to construct.

A Preliminary Environmental Assessment’s been lodged with the Department of Planning and states the community will be consulted on the wind farm’s potential visual and noise impacts.

The company says while the project won’t use much water, there’s the possibility of an oil leak or other ‘containment failure’ which could contaminate local water sources.

If approved, the company says the project will create 250 jobs during construction and 40 once it’s operating.
