Indiana state lawmakers are pushing a “clean energy” bill through the House. The bill would require that 10 percent of the state’s electricity be produced from renewable electricity by 2025. Twenty-eight states and the District of Columbia have a mandatory renewable standard, but only seven states have a voluntary goal. The American Wind Energy Association ranks Indiana 11th in the U.S. in wind energy capacity. Hoosier Environmental Council executive director Jesse Kharbanda said Indiana would miss an economic development opportunity if lawmakers pass the voluntary standard. The bill passed the House Utilities and Energy committee Friday.
