Speakers from across the province converge on Smithville for an informative meeting on industrial wind turbines.

The West Lincoln Wind Action Group and Glanbrook Wind Action Group are putting on a public information meeting Thursday, April 14 at South Lincoln High School, 260 Canboroough St., Smithville.

The keynote speaker will address property value concerns raised by both community groups. Chris Luxemburger, a Barrie realtor and president of the Brampton Real Estate Board, will detail property value losses in the vicinity of industrial wind turbines. Luxemburger has appeared as an expert witness before several Ontario Municipal Board hearings on turbines where he has documented property value losses.

WLWAG is concerned that two proposed industrial wind turbine projects – a five-megawatt project planned for Caistor Centre and a 230-megawatt project will expand across Smithville and the surrounding area – will not only effect the health of local residents but greatly impact property values in the vicinity of the two projects.

The group has also invited John Laforet, president of Wind Concerns Ontario, Ian Hanna, a Big Island resident who recently lost a court battle with the province over the placement of turbines, and Stephana Johnston, a retired schoolteacher from Long Point who lives within three kilometres of 18 industrial wind power turbines, to speak at next week’s meeting.

All are invited to the public meeting, which begins at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m.
