Weeks after a wind farm plan is refused, another is submitted

A new wind farm proposal has emerged for the Croft area just weeks after another turbine application was refused by planners at Orby Marsh.

REG Windpower is in the early stages of considering Bank House Farm wind farm, a six turbine proposal approximately two kilometres south-east of Croft.

The company is looking at a site adjacent to the A52 on land between Bank House and Coddington’s Yard.

REG Windpower development manager Tracey Siddle said: “Although we are still in the early stages, we believe this site has the potential to successfully generate a significant amount of safe, clean renewable electricity.

“Developing a wind farm is a complex process and we have several technical and environmental studies to carry out.

“Once these are further advanced we will be able to say much more. We always strive to be good neighbours and as we progress with this project, I can assure you that we will hold local exhibitions outlining our proposals, set up a dedicated project website and encourage local people to have their say.

“We will also seek to establish a fund to benefit local causes and hope that people living nearby will give us their ideas for how this money could be spent.”

REG Windpower was established in 1989 and developed one of the country’s first onshore wind farms at Goonhilly Downs in Cornwall.

The company now owns and operates 10 working wind farms around the UK.

A presentation on the proposals by Pegasus Public Relations, acting on behalf of REG, was given to councillors and the public at a meeting of Croft Parish Council on April 4.

Council chairman Eric Peacock told the Target: “We aren’t split on opinion, the majority have voted against the wind farm.

“There is a lot of opposition at the minute, where they have planned to put them is not in the best place.

“There are around 10 houses they are going to affect badly.”

Local residents are already looking at getting an action group together against the plans.

Members of the public are invited to attend the annual parish meeting on May 23 when the proposals will be discussed.

The parish council has invited councillor Colin Davie, Melvyn Grosvenor and MP Mark Simmonds to speak at the meeting at 7pm in the village hall.
