Wind farms generate concern among Boorowa residents

More than 100 people have gathered at a second public meeting to express their concerns about the potential impacts of the three wind farms in the Boorowa district.

Residents, whose properties neighbour the Rugby, Rye Park and Bango projects, set up the forum to discuss the proposals.

The organiser and local landowner, Sam McGuiness, says the health side effects and the impact on neighbouring farms were the among the biggest concerns.

He says people are frustrated by the lack of information.

“People are very worried, mainly because you know what is happening to people,” he said.

“There were some pretty tough people there that were, well they were nearly choked up one of them, but they just said what are we going to do if we get kicked off, this is where our home is you know.

“Our asset value is in our landscape.

“If this all means we can’t live in this area who’s going to be sort of responsible for that?”

Mr McGuiness says emotions are running high with locals desperate to find out more about the developments.

He says while there were representatives from the companies at the meeting, residents would like to speak to them directly.

“Put the information out there.

“We’d certainly love to meet with the companies, especially in a public forum such as we’re holding.

“This really shouldn’t be Charlie Arnott or myself’s job, this should be the company’s job and they should be mandatory to put these public consultation meetings on so that we can actually get the information.”
