ALLEGANY – After two hours of reviewing sound issues for a proposed wind turbine farm in the town of Allegany, the Town Planning Board set April 27 as the date for a special meeting to approve or reject the project’s application for a Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS.)

Following Monday’s meeting, Bob Phillips, planning board chairman, said if the board does issue the FEIS for the Allegany Wind LLC project at the April 27 meeting, it would likely set a public hearing on May 16.

A 29-turbine commercial wind farm has been proposed for the Chipmonk and Knapp Creek area by EverPower Wind Holdings Inc. of New York City. The proposed wind farm has been opposed by some members of the community as well as the Concerned Citizens of Cattaraugus County group. Those who oppose the turbines believe it will create noise and aesthetic and environmental problems for the community.
