A proposal for a $700 million wind farm near Boorowa has been lodged with the New South Wales Department of Planning.

The proponent, Wind Prospect, wants to build at least 100 turbines on a ridge 20 kilometres southwest of Boorowa.

The company’s initial assessment says the project will aim to have a minimal environmental impact, but it will affect more than 30 private landowners

These residents and the local councils will be consulted during the planning process.

The project is expected to create 120 jobs during construction and 12 once it is operating.

The project is the third of its kind in the Boorowa district, with two other companies submitting plans for wind farms at Rugby and Rye Park.

A final Environmental Assessment for the Bango Wind Farm will be submitted to the Planning Department next year.

If approved, the wind farm will be up and running in 2014.

Wind Prospect has also lodged plans for a site between at Pyramul between Bathurst and Mudgee.
