Big Wind has attracted much big wind – lots of talk about the benefits of a 400 megawatt wind power plant on the islands of Lāna’i and Moloka’i. With Moloka’i’s participation now in doubt, this documentary short by award-winning Walter Media captures the potential impacts of placing all 400 MW on the people, environment and lifestyle of Lāna’i. Giving voice to island residents, it also interviews several nationally-known energy experts, as well as government officials who comment on the grave risks presented by this project. It is a powerful, extraordinary window into the small rural island of Lāna’i – an island that faces the irrevocable loss of one-quarter of its land for 170 enormous (410 feet tall) turbines to produce 10 percent of O’ahu’s electrical needs.
