The Mason County Board of Commissioners is expected to make a decision on who will pay for possible amendments to the Mason County Zoning Ordinance on wind turbines at its Tuesday evening meeting.

A group of residents concerned about the proposed Lake Winds Energy Project suggested more stringent guidelines for wind turbines in the zoning ordinance last November.

Earlier this year the Mason County Planning Commission began reviewing the proposed amendment and incurring costs for additional meetings and legal and expert review.

The issue has been before both the Finance, Personnel and Rules Committee and Public Safety and Courts Committee. During a Finance Committee meeting last week, committee members decided to get a legal opinion to see if the county legally could waive fees associated with the cost of amending the ordinance, and if so, would that mean the county would have to reimburse those who have already paid to have the ordinance changed.
