Suzlon Energy on Thursday launched a new range of large capacity wind turbine machines suitable for low wind speeds.

Addressing the launch of the S9X suite of wind turbines here today at the 3-day conference on wind power, Suzlon’s Chairman and Managing Director, Mr Tulsi R. Tanti, said the 2-MW class turbines were specifically designed for moderate and low wind regimes. As the emerging economies increasingly focus on renewable energy, there is a need for products tailored to meet the needs of the new markets.

The S9X suite is designed with focus on optimising costs and increasing efficiency. Low wind regimes involve greater investments and capital expenditure. But Suzlon’s technological capability balances these opposing factors, he said. These machines will also be compliant with the grid requirements of the markets they target.

The 2-MW class machines come in two variants of 90-m and 100-m hub heights and rotor diameter of 95 m and 97 m. The S95 will be launched in the second quarter of the current year and the S97 in the fourth quarter, he said.
