BP Wind establishes Maryville office

Maryville, Mo. – Maryville residents driving along the north side of the courthouse square may have noticed a new sign that recently went up over a storefront at the corner of Fourth and Market streets.

Formerly the home of a Snyder & Associates Engineering branch office, the building was recently leased by BP Wind Energy, the latest corporate player betting on the potential for wind farm development in Nodaway County.

BP Wind Energy Director of Business Development Karl W. Pierce said Thursday the wholly-owned corporate brand of BP p.l.c. – the global oil and gas giant – started acquiring leases from landowners in northeast Nodaway County in 2006 and 2007 after buying out Greenlight Energy.

The new office, Pierce said, is related to efforts to acquire additional leases in the same area.
“That’s the reason we have the office there now,” Pierce said. “We’re seeking to expand, and we’re doing some leasing to help out our position with that project.”

According to Nodaway County Assessor Rex Wallace, part of BP’s growing presence in Nodaway County has included the acquisition of leases originally signed by local landowners and TradeWind Energy of Lenexa, Kan…
