Councillors have finalised their reasons for rejecting plans for a six-turbine windfarm.

Permission for the Grange Wind Farm facility at Flixborough Grange was originally set to be turned down due its potential impact on the landscape.

But councillors have now added noise and health implications to the reasons for refusal, after a planning committee meeting yesterday at Pittwood House.

Steve Fuller, an engineer speaking on behalf of the people of Burton-upon-Stather, highlighted the noise issues that the windfarm would create.

He said: “It is good to see that people are listening to our proposals. A lot of the noise created is not straightforward and I am glad they have listened to what we have said.”

Councillor Bernard Regan spoke passionately about the health-related reasons for refusing the plans, touching on the effects they would have on families with autistic children in the surrounding area.

Two earlier applications from developer RidgeWind had previously been thrown out with one being turned down after a public inquiry. Dave Gylliatt, a Burton-upon-Stather resident, said: “It is a great result for the people of Burton-upon-Stather, because two more important factors have been added to the reasons for refusal.

“We are pleased to see our voices being heard, and that important further measures are being taken.

“It was implied that health reasons were not going to be included in the reasons for refusal, but we are delighted to see that they are being taken into consideration.

“I believe it would be ludicrous not to look at the effect a windfarm could have on people’s health. The proposals for a windfarm have been rejected time and time again, and these added reasons for refusal will do even more to stop any plans from going ahead.”

RidgeWind were unavailable for comment.
