PLYMOUTH – Some say you can’t win an argument by examples or comparisons because one thing isn’t really like another.

The Zoning Board of Appeals hearing Wednesday night regarding plans to site a 492-foot-tall wind turbine north of Route 25, off Head of the Bay Road was fraught with examples and comparisons. Those backing the proposal cited studies and the malfunctioning Falmouth turbine as proof the proposal should be stopped. Those in favor cited other studies and other examples of turbines in Hull and at Mass. Maritime Academy as proof turbines don’t cause property values to drop or result in health problems.

The tone was, at times, contentious as Bournehurst Drive neighbors expressed vehement opposition.

“You’re the meanest man,” one woman declared, addressing ZBA Chairman Peter Conner. “You’re good-looking, but you’re mean!”

“My wife would probably agree,” Conner responded smiling, as laughter broke out.

The ZBA closed the public hearing portion of the meeting and continued the hearing to 8:15 p.m., May 4.
