The Roosevelt Wind Ranch, to be built between Elida and Dora, is approaching the final stages for project negotiations.

The vice-president of development for Terra-Gen Power, Bill Castor, told Roosevelt County commissioners at a special meeting Wednesday in the county courthouse that his company is in its final stages of planning with only a Power Purchase agreement left in the works.

“We haven’t decided on the turbine technology we’ll use,” Castor said.

He said the company is currently in contact with three power companies out of California and will soon make a final decision on which company will work with them on the project.

Castor said the next step to take is negotiations with local schools and officials. After negotiations have finished and contracts have been signed, construction will begin on the project. He said they hope to begin negotiations by the end of May and begin construction some time in the first or second quarter of 2012.

“Roosevelt County is our top priority outside our California projects,” Castor said.

Castor said 80,000 acres of land was leased for the project and the wind ranch is expected to be operational the end of 2012.
