Wind farms all about the money

Falmouth Bulletin, www.wickedlocal.com 4 April 2011Falmouth Bulletin, www.wickedlocal.com 4 April 2011

The recent article “Turbines under review country-wide, locally’ (March 16) sure did leave out lots of information relating to the swindled residents of Bourne and the rest of Cape Cod. Wind farms anywhere near residential areas are so noisy and ugly that real estate values of those properties drop. Why? Just because they are the ugliest architectural burps imaginable? Yes and no. While true enough, that’s just the tip of the noiseberg. The damage to the health of residents is long and extensively documented in the highly technical book, “Wind Turbine Syndrome” by Dr. Nina Pierpont.

She has documented a vast array of physical harm to residents who are being hoodwinked by the latest entourage of hot-air filled “medicine men.” These physical symptoms include tinnitus, lack of sleep, suicidal thinking, raised blood pressure and learning problems in children. One physical factor that is largely ignored is that windmills create powerful in-ground vibrations, causing the foundations of nearby residents’ homes to vibrate, making sleep impossible. And sounds of all kinds, as we see, for example, in beached whales, are extremely disturbing to fish and sea mammals, Sure, bring on all those government-granted and funded windmills onto Cape Cod’s ambient seabeds and it will soon be goodbye shellfish, goodbye fishing-industry. Scallops, clams, and schools of fish will soon be abandoning their noisy homes around here, faster than a windmill can spin.

Do the government-funded windfarm grantees have any concern about such things? Of course not. Why? Because, my fellow quahogs and wash-ashores, putting up all their windmills around here has nothing whatsoever to do with creating a new, nature-friendly source of energy. It’s not about our going green. It’s all about their going greenbacks.
