Wind energy project in Calumet County dropped

For the second time this month, plans are dropped for a Northeast Wisconsin wind energy project.

Chicago-based Midwest Wind Energy suspended plans to construct a 75-turbine project in southern Calumet County.

The company says it doesn’t make sense to invest in the project due to uncertainty with the state’s regulatory process.

The move comes one day after the Legislature’s rules committee introduced a bill directing state regulators to draft new standards regarding the distance between turbines and homes.

Midwest Wind Energy says it’s waiting for a more predictable business climate in Wisconsin.

A week ago, Chicago-based Invenergy announced it would no longer pursue development of a 100-turbine wind farm in southern Brown County, also citing uncertainty over Wisconsin’s regulations.
