Wind farm protest meeting

‘No thanks, Mr Banks’ is the message from concerned villagers opposed to a proposed wind farm south of Hunmanby.

A protest meeting has now been organised for 7pm on Monday, March 21 at Hunmanby Community Centre.

Hunmanby parish councillor Michelle Donohue-Moncrieff said there had been a groundswell of local opinion against the development and urged concerned residents of Hunmanby, Burton Fleming and the surrounding area to “stand up for our beautiful villages” by attending the meeting to form a group opposed to the wind farm.

She said: “I have been overwhelmed by the number of residents who have contacted me about establishing a ‘No’ campaign. If residents pull together then we can stop this huge development overwhelming our villages.”

Tony Aspinall, who moved to Hunmanby to retire, said he and his wife would leave the village if the site was sanctioned.

The plans by Banks Renewables envisage a maximum of 14 turbines up to 430ft in height, providing power to a potential 26,500 homes.
