TIRUNELVELI: Areas coming under Tirunelveli Corporation are experiencing three-hour load shedding in the past two days. The increase in the duration is being attributed to the drastically reduced power generation by the wind turbine generators of Muppandal wind farm on the Tirunelveli- Kanyakumari border.
A recently issued load shedding schedule from Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation stated that the power cut duration would be only two hours. As the power cut for the increased duration is being clamped at anytime and not imposed as per the schedule announced earlier, people suffer a lot. As per the load shedding schedule, there would be no power supply on Thiruvananthapuram High Road between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. However, power supply was cut for three hours from 12.30 p.m. last week and again for the similar duration on Saturday, but between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.
“If power supply has to be stopped for three hours or more, it should be informed in advance through the media so that people can plan their work accordingly. Abrupt power cut causes severe problems,” said a DTP operator here.
A senior TANGEDCO engineer here said that even top officials at Palayamkottai were not being informed by the people in the Kayathar sub-station about the power cut. “They impose the power cut at will. It causes problems to us as people calling the control room verbally abuse the personnel as the three-hour-long power cuts are being imposed erratically. We will try to sort out this problem,” he said.
