Alert all to wind-tower proposals

Sheboygan Press, www.sheboyganpress.com

Recently, I was informed local farmers are working with a wind turbine company to place multiple 400-foot turbines in the Town of Centerville.

At a past Town Board meeting, I was told prior legislation was passed that prevents town or county residents from voting on the acceptance of wind turbines in their communities. The decision has been moved to the state level with no local government voting.

Over a year ago, Uriel Wind Co. contacted several area farmers to propose the installation of wind turbines, on their property, in our township. They would be located near many homes, not just in open fields.

I think the community should have a right to vote on this matter. There should be a required notification process to all affected households within two miles of the turbines prior to any negotiations and/or granting of permits.

A crucial phase of this process is to encourage public input, to ask questions and voice their concerns. Unfortunately, today our only avenue to speak out is through elected officials.

I urge everyone concerned about this issue to contact him or her immediately; this legislation is under review. Together, we have a strong voice! Protect your right to enjoy the property you own, without this disturbance.
