Will wind turbines top Mount Waldo?

By Steve Fuller, Republican Journal, waldo.villagesoup.com 16 March 2011

Frankfort – A New Hampshire-based renewable energy company has reportedly expressed interest in building a wind energy installation on Mount Waldo, and residents will get a chance to learn more at a public meeting Thursday, March 17.

That meeting will start at 7 p.m., according to a Frankfort town office official, and will be at Frankfort Elementary School located at 112 North Searsport Road.

Eolian Renewable Energy, which lists a Portsmouth, N.H., address on its website, bills itself as a “new kind of development company,” one that “build[s] local, clean energy projects where they are wanted.”

According to the company’s website, Eolian focuses on solar and wind energy projects, and it “currently has projects in active stages of development in Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Vermont, Michigan and North Dakota.”

The website does not indicate what type of installations are in each state, nor where particular projects are located. It does state, however, projects Eolian is involved with “range in size from 1-2 turbines in the multi-megawatt size class to 25-30 MW wind farms.” It was not known Wednesday morning, March 16, what size project is being considered in Frankfort.
