WILLMAR – One of the two wind turbines operated by Willmar Municipal Utilities went out of service last Friday due to the failure of the voltage conditioning electronics.

The utility was notified of the failure at about 8:30 a.m. by a technician with turbine supplier DeWind Company of Round Rock, Texas. The turbines are located just north of Willmar High School.

Wes Hompe, utility staff electrical engineer, said today he was informed by DeWind that the unit will be out of service until the parts arrive. Estimated time of arrival for the replacement parts is Wednesday.

At that time, one DeWind technician and one municipal utility technician will replace the parts. Hompe said he hopes the unit will be back up and running by the end of this week.

The turbines have been in service since Sept. 3, 2009.
