CLAYBANKS TWP. – A wind energy project in Claybanks Township may need to follow greater set-back requirements if a proposed change to the township’s wind power ordinance is accepted.

The township’s planning commission is sending a recommendation to the township board which would more than triple the required setback distance stated in the current ordinance.

The Claybanks board will examine the issue at its monthly general meeting Monday, March 14.

The meeting is set to start at 7:30 p.m.

BP Energy has approached the township with a plan to build up to 30 wind turbines on privately owned property in the township’s eastern edge, along 64th Avenue. Each tower could measure up to 500 feet in height.
