Wind farm protests to continue despite EDF scaling back its plans

Controversial plans to build nine wind turbines on farmland near Burnham-On-Sea have been scaled back following protests from residents nearby.

EDF Energy has this week submitted revised plans to have just five turbines at Withy End Farm on the outskirts of East Huntspill instead of the nine originally planned, as pictured above.

EDF has also altered the positioning of the turbines to reduce the environmental and visual impact on the area.

The company says that almost 500 people attended its public consultation exhibitions last year, with 171 questionnaires completed.

Dennis Garry, development manager for the project, said on Tuesday: “We believe that the Withy End Farm site is very suitable for this kind of development. We would like to thank all those who participated in the consultation as their feedback has played a key role in helping to shape our final proposals for the site.”

The plans will now go before Sedgemoor District Council for consideration.

Supporters of the ‘No Huntspill Wind Farms’ group say they will continue to oppose the plans despite the scaled back application.
