PUC hold firm on power line

The Fredericksburg Standard, www.fredericksburgstandard.com 9 March 2011

A motion for rehearing of the Public Utility Commission’s decision to route a wind energy transmission line down Interstate Highway 10 through Kerrville will not be heard after none of the three commissioners voted to add the motion to their open meeting agenda.

The motion had been filed by the City of Kerrville, Kerr County, the Kerrville Public Utility Board and the City of Junction following the PUC’s selection of a route for the 345-kilovolt line Jan. 26.

As outlined by the PUC, the line will connect a substation south of San Angelo near Eldorado in Schleicher County (now renamed Big Hill substation) to a substation in Kendall County near Comfort. A portion of the route parallels I-10 from west of Junction to near the end of the line east of Kerrville.

The route chosen by the PUC was one that avoided the Tierra Linda area of Gillespie County.

Since the Kerr and Junction groups filed the motion for rehearing, several other groups had filed responses. Included were the intervenors from Tierra Linda, who filed documents supporting the PUC decision.
